Buying a boat seemed like an excellent idea at 1:14 in the morning.
By breakfast, it seemed considerably less excellent.
Four longtime friends. One suspiciously cheap sailboat. Zero sailing experience.
After an online auction, a few celebratory drinks, and the dangerous sentence “How hard can it be?”, Daniel, Marcus, Leo, and Finn become the extremely unqualified owners of a sailboat they neither need nor know how to operate.
Their plan is simple:
Take it out for one short test sail.
Come back before lunch.
Never tell their families how much they paid for it.
Instead, they leave the wrong harbor, lose a phone, nearly ruin a stranger's wedding, acquire a suitcase that doesn't belong to them, attract the attention of an increasingly furious marina owner, and somehow end up much farther from home than four men with absolutely no nautical ability should ever be.
Then the weather changes.
One of them disappears.
And they discover something considerably more troubling:
The boat was never supposed to be sold.
Suddenly their ridiculous weekend adventure has a history none of them understands, several people desperately want something they think is aboard, and the mysterious suitcase may be the key to everything.
Except...
they have the wrong suitcase.
Again.
What began as four friends trying to survive one spectacularly stupid purchase becomes a wild chain reaction of bad decisions, impossible coincidences, old grudges, accidental heroics, and increasingly desperate attempts to get themselves—and their terrible boat—back home.
Because friendship can survive almost anything.
The real question is whether it can survive letting Finn steer again.
We Bought a Boat. None of Us Can Sail. is a fast, funny adventure comedy about friendship, midlife stupidity, unexpected courage, and what happens when four completely unqualified people refuse to admit that they may have made a mistake.
