Synopsis

About the Book

The book seeks to systematize life skills, but its purpose is not simply to create separate lists of competencies. Rather, it aims to connect the academic dimensions of life skills with their practical development and application. In doing so, it seeks to reveal the interconnected structure of human capabilities and integrate them into a comprehensive developmental framework organized around five domains: Independent Living Skills (Chapters 1, 2, and 3); Emergency Life Skills (Chapters 4 and 5); Diverse and Adaptable Life Skills (Chapter 6); Personal Financial Skills (Chapter 7); and Digital Life Skills (Chapter 8). The integrated perspective developed across these chapters represents a shift from dependence toward meaningful participation. Once this framework is established, a natural question follows: How can parents, caregivers, and educators systematically support children in developing these capacities? Chapter 9 addresses this question by focusing on the role of adults in fostering life skills development. Ultimately, educating children for life means educating them for the fullness of what it means to be human. In this sense, educating the whole person is the broader aspiration of this book.
