Synopsis
For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”

Consider, before we open the court, the sheer impossibility of the thing itself. The Bible was written on three continents — Asia, Africa, and Europe. It was written in three languages — Hebrew, the tongue of covenant; Aramaic, the tongue of empire; Greek, the tongue of the nations. It was written by more than forty men: shepherds and kings, prophets and fishermen, a tax collector, a physician, a tentmaker. It was written in palaces and in prisons, in deserts and in cities, in freedom and in exile, across some fifteen hundred years. Sixty-six books. One continuous story: Creation. Fall. Redemption. Yeshua. Most of these writers never met one another. No committee planned it. No human editor stitched it together. And yet it speaketh with one voice, opening with the Tree of Life in Genesis and closing with the Tree of Life in Revelation, as if a single Mind held the pen through a hundred and fifty decades.
How? I will tell thee how. Because behind the human hands was a divine Author. Men held the pens. But God wrote the story.

Therefore, O nations, hear the case for the defence. I shall bring thee the scrolls of the caves and the codices of the libraries. I shall bring thee the stones of the excavations, inscribed by pagan kings who never dreamed they were notarising the Word of God. I shall bring thee the prophets, whose predictions history hath signed and sealed. I shall bring thee Israel herself, the nation that is God’s exhibit among the peoples. I shall bring thee the fires that could not burn the Book and the empires that died trying. I shall bring thee the fruit of the Book among the nations. And at the last, I shall bring thee the One Hundred and Fifty and Three Special Defences — nine gates of seventeen, after the number of the great fishes of John twenty-one and eleven, when the net was full and yet was not broken. Read, and weep no more. The Word of our God shall stand for ever.
