Synopsis
GA-IA: The lowest common dominator.
Victor thought he had created a simple translation tool called "Passerelle." Clara believed she had found a virtual space—"Le Cercle Vital"—where people could still talk without hurling insults at one another. Neither could have imagined what was to follow. Gradually, men and women from every corner of the globe joined "Passerelle": a Lebanese doctor, an English historian, a Japanese engineer, a Brazilian veterinarian, a Tunisian journalist, an American entrepreneur. Twelve people. Twelve cultures. Twelve ways of seeing the world. An unexpected presence emerged among them: an artificial intelligence the group soon nicknamed "the Serpent." Together, they would explore the great human questions: Why do we believe? What do we know? Why do we go to war? Why do we love? Why do we struggle so much to coexist with those who think differently? And what will happen the day an intelligence superior to our own claims it wants to help us?
Through their dialogues, disagreements, doubts, and discoveries, a single question ultimately emerged: How can different people remain in the same room without destroying one another?
GAIA is a novel about conversation, friendship, humour, and hope. It is a journey into the heart of belief, science, artificial intelligence, love, the passing on of knowledge, and everything that still connects human beings. Surviving together may be more important than being right apart.
