Synopsis
He woke with no name, no memory, and a body that was not flesh.
The alley is flooded. The city is half-drowned and emptying. A hooded stranger hauls him up out of the dark, gives him a name, and tells him the truth in as few words as it takes: the world is ending, and the thing ending it is in no hurry.
They call it the Scourge. It does not kill so much as take, street by street, person by person, until what is left only wears the shapes of the people it used to be. The handful who still hold the line have given the stranger a place in it and powers he can barely control.
Alex never asked for the war. But every step deeper tells him the same thing in a colder voice: he does not belong to this world, the Scourge is not the worst thing waiting in the black, and what he actually is goes down further than he is ready to follow.
