Synopsis

In a world increasingly fractured by global instability, technological and environmental threats and societal changes, our sense of who we are and what we believe is under constant pressure. Politics often frame 'the other side' as a threat to our way of life, forcing us into rigid 'tribes' in order to fit in and so find security. Constant exposure to social networks can fragment our sense of self and the digital age exposes us to social data breeches, phishing, identity threat and fraud.

Our Christian vocation is to build human solidarity and trust across all ethnic, cultural and national backgrounds and focus on shared goals such as peace, respect for God's creation, support for the poorest and those displaced by conflict and persecution. Our identity in Christ takes precedence over party political labels. To withstand what often presents to us as a 'threatening world', we need to readjust our spiritual focus on inner transformation, the recovery of active hope and, as Pope Leo XIV urges us, to move beyond a 'globalisation of difference' toward an 'awake, attentive and prophetic faith' that sees the world through Christ's eyes.
