Synopsis

A dying hotel. A phantom guest. A murder staged for the one man certain to follow the wrong name.
After ninety-three years, La Vigie is closing. A storm traps its farewell guests inside the Belle-Rivière hotel, and before morning its manager, Henri Valmont, is found murdered in the old seawater bathing room.
The register says D. Mercer took Room Seventeen. No one saw the guest arrive. No luggage can be found. And former investigative journalist Adrian Morel recognises the name from a disappearance the island never resolved.
As Inspector Maya Rivière and Morel reconstruct the hotel's final night, every clue appears to point towards the stranger who cannot be found. But the more carefully they follow Mercer's path, the less certain they become that the last guest ever existed.
The Last Guest is an atmospheric fair-play mystery set on Belle-Rivière and the third Island Files case. It can be read as a standalone novel.
