Synopsis

Here's a description you can paste into Amazon. It's about 1,900 characters, well under the 4,000 limit.

Two small words. One decisive turn. Everything changes.

Again and again, the Bible tells the human story honestly: betrayal, fear, failure, grief, sin and death. Then it turns on two words: but God.

Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery, but God meant it for good. Saul hunted David every day, but God did not give him into his hand. We were dead in our trespasses, but God, being rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ.

But God: Two Words That Change Everything gathers 51 of these turning points, from Genesis to 1 Peter, into one-page devotionals written for Christian school teachers, principals, pastors and ministry leaders. Every "but God" in Scripture leads to Jesus Christ. Each page lifts our eyes past the problem, and past even the principle, to the Person who meets us at our worst and does what only God can do.

Each one-page devotional includes:

• The full Scripture passage (ESV), ready to read aloud
• A focused reflection that sets the text in context and applies it to the classroom, the staff room and the weight of leadership
• Two tough questions, the honest kind a colleague, a grieving parent or a sharp student might ask
• A true story of someone who lived out that "but God", from Polycarp and Augustine to Corrie ten Boom, Eric Liddell, Mary McLeod Bethune and Joni Eareckson Tada
• Thoughts for teachers and leaders to challenge and encourage
• A one-sentence closing prayer, ideal for a group to pray together

Built for shared staff devotions, each reading takes about 5–8 minutes. With 51 entries, there is roughly one for every week of the school year, with a few to spare. It is just as rich for personal reflection.

This book is for anyone who plants seeds they rarely see grow, carries burdens no timetable shows, or loves students whose stories they cannot fix. It is a steady reminder that the last word never belongs to the problem. It belongs to God.
