The Land Between Two Creeks began with a man, a metal detector, and a patch of Tennessee ground so thick with briars he had to crawl through it on his hands and knees.
Beneath that ground were pieces of the past. Civil War buttons and bullets. Buckles and horseshoes. Small things left behind by people whose names had long been forgotten.
But the deeper he dug, the more he realized the most important things buried there couldn't be found with a metal detector.
There were stories.
Stories of poor Southern families, soldiers who discovered too late that there was nothing glorious about war, old men carrying memories nobody ever thought to ask about, brothers, mothers, friends, fools, farmers, and ordinary people doing their best with the hand life dealt them.
Part short story collection, part poetry, part memoir, and part back porch rambling. The Land Between Two Creeks wanders between laughter and grief, history and memory, fiction and truth.
At its heart is a simple idea. A person's life isn't measured only by the years they were here. It's measured by the stories they leave behind. And somewhere between two little Tennessee creeks, there are still plenty of stories left to tell.
