The official plaque said tomb. The stone said something else.
A generation stacks a mountain one block at a time. Copper dulls. Ramps fail. A vizier argues with a cord. Beer and bread keep a city of workers alive long enough to finish what a king demanded and a nation paid for in sweat.
The Custodians watch.
They do not lift the stone. They do not invent the ramp. They do not write the day-book of Merer. Human hands move Tura limestone and Aswan granite. Hemiunu measures. Crews haul. Water on sand does more work than any hidden machine.
Then one of them disobeys.
A Custodian scientist forgets that watching is a moral act and tries to turn a human monument into a key. The key turns once. Something beyond the known dark notices. Curiosity is not innocence simply because it calls itself science.
Builders of Giza is a companion tale to Ark of the Custodians: Book I — Project Ark. It can be read after Chapters 17 and 18. It can be read first. It does not replace the novel.
The public record of Old Kingdom construction remains: local quarry stone, Tura casing, sledges, ramps, levers, canals, rope, copper, and a vizier named Hemiunu. Beside that record stands a quieter claim. The pyramid was never only a grave. For a moment it was almost a lock.
They did not build it. They almost used it.
We do not rule. We preserve. You must choose.
