You didn't apply for this job. Nobody does.
I found out I was a single father on a Tuesday — one phone call, one impossible night, and a house that looked exactly the same as it had that morning, except there was only one adult left in it.
Dad, Inc. doesn't offer sympathy. It offers a system — the same one I actually built, chapter by chapter, mistake by mistake, raising my daughter Charlotte from that first disorienting night to right now, six years old and still very much in progress.
This isn't a finished retrospective written by someone who's already reached the finish line. Charlotte is six as I write this. Some of what follows is lived experience — stability, connection, the daily grind of growth and health and money and time and friendship. Some of it is honest planning for stages we haven't reached yet — adolescence, independence, the day she leaves — clearly marked as forward-looking, because I'd rather tell you the truth about what I don't know yet than pretend I've already lived it.
No pity. No fluff. Just a plan that runs, even on your worst day — because it's running on mine, right now, as I write this.
