Synopsis
This catalogue is published on the occasion of an exhibit of recent work by David Hockney at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles. Thematically, it demonstrates how, in many respects, the particular quality of light in Arles, so loved by Van Gogh, is reminiscent of that in Los Angeles, where Hockney returned to live and work in 2013. Hockney spent time in Arles in the 1980s, fascinated both with Van Goghs art and way of seeing a crucial connection that has lasted until the present. Featuring iPad drawings and depictions of British country lanes, the collection reflects how Hockney at once embraces and questions classic genres of art. Includes a conversation with the artist.
