Synopsis
La mort brutale de Marie, dix-sept ans, découverte au bord de la rivière, ébranle toute une communauté, et surtout Marguerite. Livrée à elle-même, maltraitée à l'école, elle aime se réfugier près du cours d'eau, sous les saules. Cette nuit-là, elle a vu quelque chose. Elle voudrait bien aider, mais voilà, Marguerite ne parle pas, ou presque jamais. Elle observe l'agitation des gendarmes et des habitants. Comment discerner la vérité parmi les rumeurs, les rivalités familiales et les rancoeurs tissées de longue date ?

Née au début des années 1980, Mathilde Beaussault, fille d'agriculteurs bretons, a trouvé dans ses origines la matière de son premier roman, Les Saules, pour lequel elle a reçu le Grand Prix de Littérature Policière et le prix Louis-Guilloux 2025.
