It was no easy task to compose a little sister to such an older brother as the Tango en skaï. It was written under extreme conditions (taking just a night and a day), and first performed in equally arduous circumstances (just three days later, by the capable hands of that excellent guitarist Aniello Desiderio, in Hungary). This little work nevertheless manages to waltz its way through melancholy, dissonance and humour, while nonchalantly juggling with a fairly demanding tasklist. Its only real liberty is the use of the tape, left to the discretion of the performer.

Born on the 19th October 1955, the French performer, composer, arranger and improviser Roland Dyens began to study the guitar when he was nine years old. Later he studied with the Spanish master Alberto Ponce in a class where he obtained, in 1976, the "Licence de Concert" from l'Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris (France). In parallel whith his studies as an instrumentalist, Roland Dyens also pursued conducting with equal enthusiasm, studying with the French composer and conductor Désiré Dondeyne (composition and orchestration) and he received a first Prize in harmony, counterpoint and analysis. Among the awards that he received in th early stages of his career are the Special Prize of the International Competition of Alessandria (ltaly) and the Grand Prize of the Charles-Cros Academia (for his recording "Hommage à Villa-Lobos"). A laureate of the Menuhin foundation, in 1988 he was classed among the 100 best contemporary guitarists of ail styles by the french magazine "Guitarist". Today, his compositions and arrangements are performed around the world to unanimous praise and enthusiasm. Truly, his work sheds new light on the possibilities of the guitar. Because of his unique talent and the originality of his music, Roland Dyens must be considered one of the most innovative and complete musicians of our time.
