Synopsis
Fanny Hensel, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s sister, wrote music throughout her life. She originally published her songs and piano pieces under her brother’s name, but soon began to use her own name instead, confiding to her diary that “I cannot deny that the joy I derive in publishing my own music also increases my good humour”. Luckily for us, her great-granddaughter Fanny Kistner-Hensel gave G. Henle Verlag access to a previously unpublished selection of 11 piano pieces, and edited them herself from the autographs. After some early pieces focussing on piano instruction there follows a chronological sequence of personal character pieces such as the Notturno in g minor and “Abschiedvon Rom” [Departure from Rome], composed from the mid-1830s.

Heureusement, l'arrière-petite fille de Fanny Hensel, Fanny Kistner, nous a permis l'accès à une sélection de onze pièces pour piano jusque-là inédites et s'est occupée elle-même de leur édition d'après les manuscrits originaux. Les morceaux à vocation pédagogique des débuts sont suivis de toute une série de pièces de caractère plus personnelles telles que le nocturne en sol mineur ou «Adieu à Rome» composées à partir du milieu des années 1830 et classées ici de manière chronologique.; Fanny Hensel, die Schwester Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys, komponierte ihr Leben lang. Zunächst veröffentlichte sie ihre Lieder und Klavierwerke im Namen ihres bekannten Bruders, bald aber auch unter ihrem eignen Namen. In einem Tagebucheintrag heißt es: 'Ich kann wohl nicht leugnen, dass die Freude an der Herausgabe meiner Musik auch meine gute Stimmung erhöht.' Glücklicherweise gewährte Fanny Hensels Urenkelin Fanny Kistner-Hensel dem G. Henle Verlag den Zugang zu einer bisher unveröffentlichten Auswahl von elf Klavierstücken und edierte diese nach den Autographen selbst. Auf frühe, klavierpädagogisch ausgerichtete Stücke folgen in chronologischer Reihenfolge persönlicher gehaltene Charakterstückewie etwa das Notturno in g-moll und 'Abschied von Rom', die ab Mitte der 1830er-Jahre entstanden.
