Synopsis
تدور الرواية في إطار حوار فلسفي حول حياة جعفر الراوي, الباحث عن الحرية وعن ثروة جده سيد الراوي, والذي كان "الجنون المقدس" دافعه لكي يعيش حياته بطولها وعرضها, فيتمرد على الجد صاحب الجاه والثراء ويتخلى عن حياته المريحة والمرسومة بدقة في كنف جده, ولا يمانع في خسارة أي شئ مقابل حرية الاختيار, فيخسر عائلته ومكانته الاجتماعية بل وماله واستكمال تعليمه واستقراره في البيت الكبير, يتزوج من أجل الحب فقط والرغبة الجامحة, ويواجه غضب الجد وحرمانه من الميراث بصلابة وتصميم, ويخوض غمار الحياة وحيدًا باحثًا عن معنى حياته وتجربته المدهشة. نُشرت الرواية عام 1975. وانتقلت لشاشة السينما عام 1989
