Synopsis
James Gleeson is regarded as one of the foremost Australian Surrealist painters and poets. His career spans from 1938 to the present day, and encompasses works created in response to wartime, the haunting and beautiful "Garden" paintings, his heroic "psychoscapes" and experimental collages, and the most recent "cosmic" paintings which explore the undercurrents within the subconscious mind. Gleeson has always sought to explore the limits of the senses - individual ways of apprehending the world - and his art endeavours to catch glimpses of the reality beyond these limits. This book explores the depths of the psyche and in, Gleeson's case, aims to reveal the images which emerge from the shadows of the soul.
