In the 1920s, Peruvian intellectual Jose Carlos Mariategui made a unique and original contribution to Marxist theory by applying it to the history, politics, and culture of Latin America, as Che Guevara did several decades later. Mariateguis work remains a classic of Marxist literature and was one of the first to take Marxism beyond the shores of Europe to the developing world.
