This monograph documents one of the most important archaeological discoveries in China of the late 20th century--that of the intact tomb of the King of the ancient southern polity of Nanyu (contemporary with the Western Han period). During the course of the excavation a trove of fine ritual and ornamental jades and weapons were recovered, in proximity to the actual remains of the interred ruler himself. These remains were also encased in a spectacular burial 'suit' composed entirely of jade. A number of the objects catalogued are also shown 'in situ', as they were uncovered. Essential reference for all with interest in ancient jade art, now out of print and difficult to find.
