Synopsis
The novel is set in the 15th century and revolves around the fictional kingdom of Kerak, which is under the rule of King Conrad. The story centers on a humble cobbler named Simon who, through a series of unexpected events, finds himself serving as the ruler of the kingdom. Simon, a skilled craftsman but otherwise unassuming, is chosen by King Conrad to temporarily take over the throne while the king is away on a journey. Initially overwhelmed by the responsibilities and challenges of ruling, Simon gradually rises to the occasion with the help of his resourcefulness, integrity, and compassion.
