It is a comical tale of misunderstandings, attempt of fraud, drunkenness, false identity and other misfortunes. This book is about the last remaining survivors of a tontine_a group life-insurance policy in which the last surviving member supports to receive a future. It is a amusing, unconventional and brilliantly written piece of work. The story includes the last two such survivors and their relations, a train crash, missing uncles, excess dead bodies, innocent spectators. This story is about two brothers who are the last two surviving members of a tontine. Joseph and Masterman Finsbury are brothers. As a child, both started a tontine with 37 other boys: all of the children put in a sum of money, and the last alive person would receive it. Their two nephews have to do to inherit everything is make sure Joseph continues Masterman. This story was begun in 1887 by Lloyd Osbourne, was briefly titled 'The Finsbury Tontine', then 'A Game of Bluff', before finally becoming 'The Wrong Box' prior to first publication.
