In this book Arab and Turkish scholars discuss the rising importance of the Muslim (or Islamist) democratic parties of the Arab Mediterranean states (Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia) and Turkey. The authors focus on the parties’ differing ideologies and how their positions are relevant to the European Union’s policies in the region. The book pays special attention to the progressive transformation of the Islamic parties’ political stances as they become more established and as they gain control within their governments.
