A unique photo book on the aesthetics and history of cholo writing. Originally developed by the Latino gangs of L.A., cholo writing is one of the oldest forms of the 20th-century ""graffiti of names"". It has its own specific aesthetic, evident long before the explosion of tags and pieces in 1970s Philadelphia and New York. In the 1970s, Gribble photographed expamples of Latino gang graffiti over a wide geographic area. In 2008, Chastanet went to the same neighbourhoods to photograph the inscriptions of today.
