This splendid catalogue was the first to present the museum's collection of sculptors' drawings. Initially the focus was not so much on preliminary studies or working drawings as on sculptors' drawings as an independent discipline. Later the need grew to include in this category everything that contributes in any two-dimensional way to the revelation of the three-dimensional, so that photographic works also became part of the collection. As the collection grew, the drawings also changed in size: what were once small sketches were now shown on many square metres of wall or kept on rolls.
