Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. In English and Dutch. Stated First Edition. One of 2000 Copies. Beautiful book and dust jacket. Take a look at the photographs. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The blue covers of the book are exceptionally clean. The cover edges look terrific, no fading, no rubbing. Same goes for the cover corners. The spine ends are in excellent condition as well. The interior of the book looks terrific. The pages are exceptionally clean. I'm not finding any soiling at all. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There are a great many color illustrations. Also a bibliography and a list of exhibitions. The book is 96 pages long. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. There aren't any stains or tears. The jacket is not priced or clipped. It's a thick jacket with thick folds on its inside and they have created some 'clouding', a tracing of themselves, on the rear cover. That would be the case for all of the jackets on this book. This jacket will be fitted with a large protective cover after the photos of taken. Says Kanters: 'People ought to be able to get more out of it than I put into it, otherwise I have been doing something wrong. It is not just about the meaning, it is the emotion, humour and irony, tenderness and frustration, even rage that I am trying to convey.' 'There is no way to describe Kanters' work in a couple of sentences. What you can say is that the bizarre, fascinating paintings with their dozens of details depict life in all its facets of emotion, behaviour and social customs. And at an amazingly skilled technical level. As an autodidact, for decades Kanters has been doing things his own way without paying the least bit of attention to trends or fashion, he simply is who he is. After his erotic period in the 1970s, surrealism has been dominant in his work since the 1980s and his palette has become more direct, the colours less dense'. Seller Inventory # 000882

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Text in English and Dutch. 96 pp. Moderate rubbing to dust jacket; slight edge wear. The painter Hans Kanters, born and bred in Amsterdam, began his career in 1967, a point in time that heralded vast innovations in Amsterdam. Throughout the years, as an autodidact Kanters has always gone his own way, ignoring trends or modes, remaining very much his own man. This book is a compilation of his paintings and lithographs from 1956 to 1992. After his erotic period in the serenties, now surrealism can be seen to manifest itself with greater clarity in his work, and his palette has become more direct, his colours more rarefied. In his text, Frans Duister elaborates upon Kanters' work in a manner that is articulate and discerning and gives us a hint of what this fascinating painter is all about. 61 colour illustrations, 16 black and white illustrations.
