Ton Salman (1954) studied cultural anthropology and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and the Freie Universitt Berlin. His PhD research was about shantytown organizations in Chile under dictatorship. He also published on themes such as democratization, citizenship and popular culture in Latin America. At present he is a senior research fellow of the Dutch Foundation for the Advancement of Scientific Research (NWO) and connected to the Amsterdam Centre for Study and Documentation of Latin America (CEDLA), and the Institute of Development Research Amsterdam (InDRA).
