This is the third publication in a series of four concerning the approximately 100 most important timber species of the northern part of Guyana, the area where most forestry activity occurs. The species composition of the Guyanese forest being rather similar to that of those of Suriname and French Guyana, the French and Dutch literature on these areas is also included in the survey where appropriate. Information from local producers and others is also featured. For each species, and in some cases groups of similar species, the following data are provided: botanical names (genus, species, family, synonyms), international trade name and vernacular names, tree/bole description, wood description, technological characteristics (both physical and mechanical), processing (including kiln schedules), natural durability and treatability, and uses.
