Synopsis
A selection of 14 papers presented at an international conference on agriculture and rural development in China. The main themes of the contributions are: agricultural politics and planning and state involvement in rural organization, marketing, extension and finance; and technological and organizational changes in agriculture, rural enterprise and rural-urban migration since the 1980s. The contributors (some of whom are Chinese) focus on recent developments and make extensive use of original Chinese sources and information gained first-hand from co-operative projects at Chinese agricultural agencies.
