About the Author
Christophe Gironde is a political economist, currently working as a Senior Lecturer at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. He is also the deputy Editor-in-Chief of International Development Policy. His main research interests are human development and agrarian change. He has extensive field research experience in rural Vietnam and Cambodia, and previously in the Republic of Congo and Burundi. Before joining the Institute in 2004, he worked as a researcher at the Fafo Research Foundation in Oslo and lived in Vietnam while preparing his doctoral thesis. Gilles Carbonnier is Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Professor of Development Economics at the Graduate Institute, Geneva. He was formerly Editor-in-Chief of International Development Policy, and currently is a member of the editorial board. His research interests include international development cooperation, as well as the governance of natural resources and illicit financial flows. His latest book is entitled Humanitarian Economics, War, Disaster and the Global Aid Market (London and New York: Hurst and Oxford University Press, 2016).
