Presenting the multi-faceted world of ancient writing that forms the background to the Hebrew Bible, this series of three volumes is designed as a reference work for all engaged in the study of the Bible and the ancient Near East. It includes translations of recently discovered texts as well as current translations of better-known texts. This volume emphasizes "historical" texts: the monuments in which their achievements and lesser mortals expressed thier loyalty or piety.
