Vito Witting da Prato studied economics in Boston. He currently lives in Florence and writing is one of his numerous interests. As a collector of Alfa Romeos and a member of the Italian Alfa Romeo Register as well as a student of automobile history, he is a founder member of the Italian Association of Automobile History (Associazione Italiana per la Storia dell'Automobile).
