Synopsis
Among the polygonal walls, those of Amelia are particularly interesting because they contain a large number of concave blocks. A concave stone generates in the wall system a condition of double constraint given that it comes into contact with the adjacent one on two sides instead of one. Therefore, the concave blocks represent a structural innovation that inserts in the polygonal walls, in an intentional way, as many points of constraint of a higher degree with the result of obtaining a greater solidity of the whole masonry work.
