Synopsis
The Holy Years are like milestones along the pilgrims' route upon which Christians, as the "wandering people of God", move towards their eternal goal. This book recounts the history of the Holy Years in word and picture, illustrating the sacred sites and explaining the rituals and ceremonies associated with them. It also tells of the experiences of pilgrims in previous centuries and describes present-day Rome. At the same time it also aims to prepare pilgrims for the forthcoming Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 and seeks to provide them with a guide to the holy places of Rome and with a pleasant and lasting reminder of their pilgrimage to the Eternal City.
