Synopsis
The postconciliar "Gradual simplex" is a book of songs born by the explicit mandate of the Second Vatican Council (cf. Sacrosanctum Concilium 117), designed to accompany the rite of Mass in ordinary form. It contains authentic Gregorian texts and melodies, often older (and for this simple) than the corresponding songs of Gradual Romanum. Many antiphons are also taken from the Divine Office and used, for the identity of the text, as revenues, offerers or songs of communion.
