About the Author
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930) fue un escritor escocés, célebre por crear al detective ficticio más famoso del mundo: Sherlock Holmes. "El mundo perdido", obra fundacional del género de los dinosaurios del escritor inglés Arthur Conan Doyle ilustrada por el dibujante aragonés Sagar Forniés, abre -junto con "Monkton el loco" de Wilkie Collins, al que pone en imágenes Fidel Martínez- la colección Clásicos Ilustrados de Astiberri, donde una recopilación de relatos o, como en este caso, una novela completa de un autor de referencia de la literatura es interpretada gráficamente a lo largo del libro con una serie de ilustraciones principalmente a toda página por un dibujante de cómics. Novela de aventuras con apuntes fantásticos y de ciencia ficción, "El mundo perdido" tiene como protagonista estelar al profesor Challenger, eminente zoólogo de cabeza descomunal y no menos dotada inteligencia que fustiga las estrechas mentes de sus colegas con sus hipótesis y hallazgos increíbles. El irascible y polémico profesor sostiene la extravagante teoría de que aún existen en nuestro planeta especies de vida primitiva, entre las que destacan los grandes reptiles del Jurásico, y propone enviar una expedición al Amazonas para comprobar la veracidad de sus afirmaciones. Malone, un joven periodista que necesita participar en alguna aventura para ganar el corazón de su amada, no duda en formar parte de dicha misión investigadora que completan el escéptico profesor Summerlee y el deportista, cazador y aventurero lord John Roxton. Su lugar de destino: Maple White, una meseta perdida en algún lugar de la selva amazónica, que por razones muy peculiares ha permanecido aislada del resto del mundo. La nostalgia por una infancia fascinada por los dinosaurios, el gusto por el falso documental -"que la novela aborda con maestría"- y la pasión por el cuaderno de viaje -"que me ha permitido hacer un recorrido también en primera persona a la hora de hacer prácticamente todas las ilustraciones"- le han posibilitado a Sagar Forniés disfrutar a fondo a la hora de enfrentarse al texto de Conan Doyle y salir sobradame.
