Synopsis

This guide brings together the most interesting and important works in Barcelona from 1860 to 2001. This period spans the architectural manifestations of Modernisme and Noucentisme for which Barcelona is known the world over. The guide also presents the innovatory schemes of Mies van der Rohe in his German Pavilion of 1929, rationalist works conceived during the 1940s and 50s, the big housing projects from the 1970s, the Olympic architecture of the end of the 80s, and post-Olympic architecture. Each entry gives details of the architect, the dates of initial planning and final construction, the address, a brief explanatory description, the means of public transport for getting there, and any later interventions the work underwent, listing the respective authors and the date. Amplifications, alterations, restorations and reconstructions are highlighted by a coding system. The book is also available in a Spanish language version, ISBN 84-89698-47-3.
