Cartas Persas (Persian Letters) by Montesquieu is a classic work of Enlightenment literature that uses the format of fictional letters to offer a sharp critique of French society in the 18th century. Written from the perspective of two Persian travelers, Usbek and Rica, the book humorously and critically examines European customs, political systems, and social structures. Through satire, Montesquieu challenges the excesses of absolute monarchy, religious intolerance, and the rigid class system, making it a powerful exploration of human nature and society. A foundational text for those interested in political philosophy, social criticism, and the Enlightenment era, this work continues to inspire discussions on liberty, justice, and governance.
