About the author :: George Raymond Richard Martin ( Bayonne , NJ , September 20, 1948 ), known as George RR Martin and sometimes by his fans as GRRM , is a writer and screenwriter American of fantasy literature , science fiction and horror famous as the author of the novel series a Song of Ice and Fire , adapted to television with the title of Game of Thrones (Game of Thrones ) .. George RR Martin is the oldest of three brothers. He grew up in a working family , his father was a longshoreman Italian- German descent , and his mother, of Irish descent . During the eighties and early nineties worked as several television series ( The Twilight Zone, 1986 and The Beauty and the Beast , 1987) writer and editor of the anthology series of alternative history of World War II , Wild Cards .
