Synopsis

"Metasociology" is a study of the diverse modes of social thought, which explores the historical emergence of the modern state, the market and the individual. Drawing on the works of many prominent philosophers, the author investigates the relationship between social statistics and sociology, the development of sociology as a de-Christianized rendering of conservative thought and the materialistic conception of history according to Marx, Engels, Adorno and Bourdieu. The text then describes and discusses some recent avant garde attempts to get away from these conceptual conflicts, as explored by Sartre, Foucault, Deleuze, Luhmann and Touraine.
