About the Author
Dr P. C. Sinha obtained M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He also successfully participated in the international diploma programme on the "Conflict Resolution" at Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden and worked as the Research Fellow on environment and policy issues at EPAI, East-West Center, Hawaii (USA) leading to his post-doctoral degree. He was senior Research Fellow at School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. A prolific writer, Dr Sinha has several outstanding publications to his credit.

Disaster management aims to reduce human suffering and economic losses caused by natural and technological disasters. We do this by helping the World Bank provide a more strategic and rapid response to disasters and promoting the integration of disaster prevention and mitigation efforts into the range of development activities. Poorly planned development can turn a recurring natural phenomenon into a human and economic disaster. Allowing the degradation of natural resources increases the risk of disaster.
