The book aims to advance the interests of oceans (incorporating 72% of the earth's surface) coast (the home of 50% of the world's population) and islands (43% of the world's nations are small island developing states which are especially dependent on the oceans) and wetlands (both coastal and terrestrial ones of international importance). The mother of all global environmental guidelines the convention on the law of the sea is covered in detail. The recent programme of action for sustainable development of small island developing states is described. The Ramsar Convention on Wetland is presented with all the recent amendments. Chapter 17 and 18 of Agenda dealing with the plan of action for oceans enclosed and semi enclosed areas coastal area and freshwater resources respectively is dealt in detail.
