Leadership as the most important element of overall development of the country has been accepted universally. The study shows the fuzzy picture of leadership roles because of the failure of politicians to free themselves from the pervasive ascriptive influence of the past. It is indeed study as no leadership studies have appeared as yet in democratic Nepal.

Lok Raj Band (Ph.D.) is Professor and Executive Chairman of Nepal Centre for Contemporary Studies (NCCS). Prof. Baral served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Political Science and was ambassador of Nepal to India during 1996-97. Krishna Hachhethu (Ph.D.) is Associate Professor of Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies, Tribhuban University, Kathmandu. Hari Sharma is associated with Nepal Centre for Contemporary Studies, both as a member and contributor to different volumes and journals. He served twice as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister G. P. Koirala. Sharma is one of the co-authors of the book Leadership in Nepal.
