Tropical diseases, such as filariasis, malaria, kala-zar, amoebiasis, cholera, leprosy and tuberculosis, are taking a massive economic toll on account of the widespread illness and death they cause in the endemic areas. A new wave of research is in progress worldwide to develop diagnostics, chemotherapy and vaccines against these diseases. The CSIR organized a symposium on tropical diseases, from 17-20 February, 1992. This proceedings volume contains 93 updated papers presented at the symposium.
