The book is a collection of the list of inscriptions in different places of the South India, published by the Department of Epigraphy in the then Presidency of Madras. The epigraphical reports are a veritable mine of information but unfortunately the information they give have not been arranged according to any definite plan. The exact situation of the villages from which the inscriptions have been copied in a large number of cases and the student of research has to spend a lot of time in training the exact topographies for which he has not often got the proper book of reference. The inscriptions of a single locality, moreover, have been published in a number of reports so that a scholar who is in need of the epigraphical data of a local history has to waste an enormous amount of time by going through all the reports. It is not attempt at the complete utilization of all epigraphical materials however that is likely to be the characteristic of the book. This book will prove to be handy in the context of the inscriptions. About the Author:-V. Rangacharya was an Indian born scholar, author and historian from South India. He is mostly remembered for his classic and research work on A Topographical List of the Inscriptions of the Madras Presidency (Collected Till I915).
