This book is written specifically to address the course curriculum in engineering physics for first-year students of all branches of engineering. Though most of the topics covered are customarily taught in universities and institutes, the book follows the sequence of topics as prescribed in the course syllabus of engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.
This new edition presents the fundamental concepts of physics in a pedagogically sound manner. It includes a new chapter on thermal physics, which is essential for core engineering students. Furthermore, topics such as crystal growth techniques, estimation of packing density of diamonds, and the relation between three moduli of elasticity are included.

About the Author
K. Rajagopal, Ph.D., is currently the Professor and Head of the Physics Department at Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli. He received his M.Sc. degree from Madras University and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai in the field of Non-Linear Optics. He has more than 32 years of experience of Teaching Physics to Undergraduate Engineering students.
Dr. K. Rajagopal has published more than 50 research papers in reputed International and National journals. He has successfully completed two major research projects from AICTE, Delhi, and DRDO, Avadi, Chennai. His name has been included in the 27th edition (1999) of dictionary of International Biography published by the International Biographical Center, Cambridge as well as in the Who’s Who in the World, 15th edition (1998) published by Marquis Publishers, USA.
