Synopsis
The first version of Invisible Cities was published by the Giulio Einaudi Editore in 1972. During its publication from late 1972 to early 1973, the author Italo Calvino talked about it in many newspaper articles and interviews. The following is the introduction to the books new edition in the Oscar series, which is an excerpt from one of the authors lectures at an M.A. writing course of the Columbia University on March 29m 1983. The lecture was originally in English, and the Italian version is used here, which is based on two interviews in 1972 and 1973 and the contents have not been published in Italy. In Invisible Cities, people cannot find recognizable cities. All the cities are fictive, and the author gave a womans name to each of them.
