谷培生创作的《做事做事(一位改革者的实践经历)》以传记的形式，讲述了吕日周同志的从政生涯。吕日周生于1945年，曾担任山西省原平县委书记、山西省朔州市市长，山西省经济体制改革委员会主任、党组书记，山西省长治市市委书，山西省政协副主席等职。他是伴随着改革开放大潮成长起来的党的优秀干部，是一代改革者的代表人物，他正义、务实、进取、睿智的作风，在干部中间产生了极大的影响，至今对年轻干部仍有很多启发和借鉴。2003年1月14日，吕日周当选陕西省政协副主席，他依然忙碌，继续去以前没去的地方深入调查研究，一如既往地写作、学习、思考、宣讲。
