Synopsis

Interpretation of the 300 Tang Poems is one volume among the translations of masterpieces from past dynasties in China. In the above-mentioned translations all the inadequacies were taken into account before we plan to publish this series. The purpose lies in rendering a general knowledge of our ancient masterpieces to readers from all walks of life, contributing substantially to the present-day humanistic spiritual construction, cultural exchange as well as translation & introduction through rewriting them in plain language and integrating translation with annotation, based upon the principles of weeding through the old to bring forth the new, collecting the cream of ancient works, carrying our traditions to new heights, revitalizing China. Therefore we employ well-learned persons of the academic circles at home and abroad, to select the works (classic works, historical works, philosophical works, and belles-letters) with historians comments from Xia & Shang Dynasties to late Qing period, and give the former edition a brand-new binding and layout translating them afresh with comprehensive annotation so that those selected works go into print through new collation. All the prefaces to the selections offer us a detailed explanation of the times, authors, contents, achievements plus documentation versions. A concise explanatory notes are in hand at the beginning of each volume, of which the original text is picked out among many as the best and notes are made in accord with generally acknowledged academic fruits. Their translations do follow the rule of being true to the original and lucidity.
