Many people talk about the environment, recycling, and environmental education, but little is known about these topics; hence the importance and necessity of providing information on such subjects as a form of education. Understanding that the best place to convey information is at school, where young people can become aware that it is necessary to treat environmental issues with greater responsibility and that people are the protagonists of the environment in which they live, that we can treat waste as something common and that the benefits achieved by taking responsibility for waste management are for everyone. In this context, this study conducted a survey on environmental issues and the impacts generated by waste among students at the Centro de Ensino Urbano Santos school, located in the city of Grajaú/Ma. We raised awareness and investigated how students are interpreting this topic and realised that students know a lot about the subject, but few actions are being taken by either the school or the government. We all need to deal with the waste we consume, and when that happens, everyone benefits.
