The term fibro-osseous lesion is a generic designation of a group of jaw disorders characterized by the replacement of bone by a benign connective tissue matrix. This matrix displays varying degree of mineralization in the form of woven bone or cementum like round acellular intensely basophilic structures. The fibro-osseous lesion is not a specific diagnosis indicating only a broad group of several diseases. Although there is no completely satisfactory classification it is generally accepted as a benign fibro osseous lesion in the oral and maxillofacial region.
